Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! No matter what you are celebrating today, I hope you are having a wonderful, relaxing break.

If you are spending time with family like me, you might find yourself in a familiar situation right now: sitting on a mountain of hundreds of photos from a family vacation or a group adventure, wondering what on earth to actually do with them.

I’m a regular when it comes to creating custom photo albums for print. But there is one thing I’ve always wanted to do: take that giant pile of messy photos and turn them into a gorgeous photomosaic. The problem? I never knew where to begin, and existing tools always felt clunky.

So, for Christmas, I decided to make my wish a reality. I spent a little time this holiday break vibe coding a new tool to do the heavy lifting for me. And in the spirit of the holidays, I wanted to share it with all of you:

Meet Mosaix

It’s a simple mini-app that lets you turn your photo collections into stunning mosaics. I’ve been testing it out with my own archives, reimagining years of Yosemite trips as some of the park’s most iconic views.

It even creates a fun zoom out video that shows how everything comes together in the final image!

A Quick Note on Building

I had a bunch of fascinating takeaways while creating this - there’s a reason why I believe strongly in the saying “build to learn”. But it’s Christmas, and I’m spending time with my family, so I’ll save the deepdive for a future post.
