I was reading through some of the great recaps on 2023, and I came across a quote that really resonated with me - it was from Benedict Evans’ 2023 recap AI, and everything else
“First we make the new tool fit the work - then we change the work to fit the tool”
Where we ended in 2023
It definitely feels like we are squarely in the first phase right now - making the new tool fit the work that we are currently doing. A few examples of this are:
Google Docs → introducing Duet AI
Adobe → adding Generative Fill and Generative Expand features
Customer Service Chatbots → Wealthsimple, Expedia, ServiceNow
All of these examples illustrate how Generative AI has been integrated into our everyday tools and workflows. Looking back at 2023, it's clear we've made some great progress, but it seems like we're just getting started. I have a feeling that next year we’re going to see a rise in even cooler and more innovative things.
What’s in store for 2024
I've been chatting with a bunch of people about this and have put together a fun list of predictions for next year - some are exciting, some are a bit out there, but all are interesting.
I'm turning these ideas into "Generative AI 2024 BINGO" card. I’ll share this with you all next week, but before I do, I'd love to hear what you think might happen. Share your ideas here, and I'll pick the best ones to include on the BINGO card!
